General Purpose

Responsible for the accounting analysis, preparation, and reporting of company financial data, and ultimately the financial health of the company.

Essential Duties

Responsible for activities of the Accounting Department, including but not limited to the following:

  • Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions
  • Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
  • Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements; Create reports that help senior leadership understand company financials
  • Coordinating activities of auditors
  • Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process
  • Guiding financial decisions by establishing, monitoring internal controls
  • Evaluating accounting and internal control systems
  • Managing the budget process
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed
  • Developing and monitoring business performance metrics
  • Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance
  • May oversee a small team
  • Performs other duties as necessary

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • At least 10 years of experience in accounting management and management of a team.
  • Must have solid communication, technology, analytical and management skills.
  • Must maintain a positive attitude and outgoing personality.
  • Must be extremely thorough and accurate.
  • Strong leadership, operational, analytical, and time management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles and their proper application to the restaurant industry.
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
  • Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems.
  • Knowledge of payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Skill in preparing and analyzing comprehensive reports.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office programs, Great Plains, and restaurant software.
  • Strong skill in reading, writing, analyzing, and interpreting general business documents, contracts, technical procedures, procedure manuals, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to maintain composure and objectivity during difficult situations.
  • Must maintain a high level of integrity, accountability, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to make decisions and resolve problems effectively.
  • Ability to meet accounting deadlines and have a sense of urgency.
  • Must be able to communicate financial information into sound business language so people of all levels can understand.
  • Deep understanding of finance.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors or Master's Degree in Accounting; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Experience in restaurant accounting.
  • CPA license is preferred.
  • Previous experience performing tasks found in the Essential Duties above.

While performing the duties of the job, the Controller will work in a well-lit, open environment. The work may involve some bending, standing or walking. Job duties are not hazardous or physically strenuous. However, the work sometimes is performed under pressure when the stress of deadlines occurs. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
